Sigma Kappa Sorority welcomes you to the University of New Orleans! As an incoming freshman or current student we want you to
make the best of your college experience. In a sorority you will be surrounded with sisterhood, scholarship, social activities, and
service! You will become intertwined in a network of other campus Greeks (sororities and fraternities) through our many functions. It’
s also a great way to meet the diverse UNO student body.
Our chapter is very active and we would like to meet more students to get acquainted with us. Because UNO’s sororities are smaller
compared to some other universities, our members really get to know their sisters and get involved. Because UNO Sororities do not
have Greek housing, our dues are affordable and there are no meal plans to purchase, nor housing requirements as larger sororities at
other universities require.
Our chapter offers leadership opportunities for members by serving as officers and committee chairs. We also focus on
philanthropic and community activities for the elderly, Alzheimer's Disease, and the Maine Sea Coast Mission. We participate in the
annual Alzheimer's Memory Walk, visit residents of local assisted living homes, and sell lollipops to help raise money for the
Alzheimer's Disease research campaign. We hold two on campus fundraisers for our philanthropy. King of Hearts in the fall, and Kick
in the Grass in the spring.
Some of our social events include Sisterhood Retreats, our annual Luau, Unbirthday Birthday Party, Mystic Pizza Sisterhood, Crazy
Dinners, shopping on Magazine St., going to a Haunted House, decorating pumpkins, visiting a cornfield maze, Christmas in the Oaks,
Christmas Tea, Winter Pearl Ball, Violet Ball, Purple Haze Party, Mardi-Gras parades, King of Hearts Pageant, Senior Prom, exchanges
with UNO fraternities, and a whole lot more! Each new member receives a Big Sis who serves as her mentor.
